The Aquatic Centre is located next to the Coastal Promenade, near the second and third dunes of the Varna Beach. The facility includes swimming pools, water slides, a spa area and a gym, along with the necessary auxiliary and service functions. Key to the project are the soft curving lines inspired by nature, interpreted in both the architecture and the open space, rendering it a harmonious and balanced environment.
Given the specific context of the property, the aim is for the architecture to be integrated into the natural landscape in an unobtrusive way, to become a natural extension of it, while introducing order and organising the scale and irregular shape of the plot. An organic architectural language and minimalist expression allow the project to fit appropriately into its surroundings without compromising its characteristic presence.
The solution chosen is a polycentric composition in which there are no strict boundaries or partitions between the individual spaces. Instead, the zones unfold smoothly, flowing into one another. The circle, at once an organic and pure geometric figure, serves to create a complex interaction where functional zoning is achieved through a hierarchy of elements organizing the project into a unified system. The oval shapes of the design create a sense of fluidity and harmonious relationship with the contours of the coastline. The dialogue with the environment is not one-dimensional: the palette of colours, materials and landscaping along the roof and verticals correspond with the surrounding cliffs, sea and greenery and firmly place the project in its context.
The façade system features vertical aluminium profiles that also act as sun protection elements for additional energy efficiency. In terms of design, they serve to unify the architecture, creating a characteristic relief and homogeneity. The appearance of the buildings is non-static - the varying orientation of the slats on the curved surface and the cast shadows break up and animate the facades.
The Aquatic Centre is an example of a considerate and holistic approach, where architecture is delicately integrated into the natural environment, contributing to its enrichment.
